INTRODUCTION TO DANCE
Level 1 (2.5–3.5 years)
Level 2 (3.5–5 years)

Our Introduction to Dance programme is specially designed for our youngest dancers and provides a nurturing, fun and imaginative introduction to movement and dance. These classes use themed lesson plans, music, props and storytelling to encourage creativity while developing a wide range of movement skills in a playful and supportive environment.

At Level 1, students are introduced to foundational dance technique through play. Classes focus on building confidence, social and cognitive skills, coordination and spatial awareness, allowing children to explore movement while developing important early learning skills in a positive group setting.

As students progress into Level 2, there is a gradual increase in structure with a stronger introduction to the Ballet syllabus. This level is designed to gently prepare students for Pre-Primary Ballet or to confidently explore their favourite dance style from age six. Students begin to master basic ballet movements such as galloping, skipping, courtesy bows, ballerina runs and classical walks. Throughout both levels, creativity, imagination and fun remain at the heart of every class, ensuring a joyful and inspiring first experience of dance.

MINI TUMBLERS
Level 1 (2.5–3.5 years)
Level 2 (3.5–5 years)

Mini Tumblers introduces our youngest students to the exciting fundamentals of acrobatics in a fun, safe and supportive environment. These high-energy classes use themed lessons, props and prompt cards to engage young learners while developing essential movement skills.

Students are introduced to beginner acrobatic skills such as tumbles, cartwheels, handstands and basic flexibility, all taught through age-appropriate games and creative activities. Classes focus on building strength, coordination, balance and body awareness, while also improving cardiovascular fitness in an energetic and positive setting.

As students progress through the levels, skills are developed with increased control and confidence, helping to lay strong foundations for future acrobatics or dance training. Mini Tumblers encourages focus, confidence and enjoyment of movement, making it the perfect introduction to acrobatics for young children.

CLASSICAL BALLET

Our Classical Ballet programme follows the renowned bbodance syllabus, providing students with a structured and progressive ballet education from their first formal steps through to advanced training. The syllabus introduces students to the foundations of classical ballet vocabulary while developing strong, secure technique through key movement principles such as accurate footwork, coordination of the limbs, graceful elevation and precise turns.

Students begin their journey in Pre-Primary and Primary levels, where an emphasis is placed on posture, musicality, coordination and discipline, building a strong technical base in a supportive environment. As dancers progress through the graded syllabus, classes become increasingly technical, focusing on strength, control, artistry and performance quality. Intermediate Ballet and Pointe classes are offered to suitable students who demonstrate the required strength, technique and readiness.

A typical ballet class is divided into two sections: Barre and Centre, with centre work including Adage, Pirouettes and Allegro. Ballet is a highly disciplined and technical art form that teaches far more than movement alone. Through consistent training, students develop work ethic, perseverance, dedication, motivation, stamina, flexibility and strength, alongside confidence, focus and a strong sense of achievement.

LYRICAL
Lyrical dance is a beautiful and expressive style that blends the technical foundations of ballet and jazz with the fluidity and emotional storytelling often found in contemporary movement. Rather than simply performing steps, lyrical dancers use movement to interpret the meaning and emotion of the music, especially when it contains meaningful lyrics that inspire the choreography.

In lyrical classes, students learn how to convey powerful feelings such as joy, love, longing or strength through fluid, graceful movement. Dancers focus on musicality, breath-driven phrasing and continuous transitions that form a seamless connection between movement and music, making each performance feel like a visual narrative.

Lyrical choreography draws on classical ballet technique — such as pointed feet, high extensions and elegant lines — while incorporating expressive gestures, dynamic leaps and turns inspired by jazz and modern dance influences. This combination creates a style that is both technically grounded and emotionally resonant.

Music choices in lyrical dance are varied and can range from heartfelt pop ballads and classical pieces to contemporary tracks, providing dancers with rich opportunities to explore mood, intention and connection to song. Ultimately, lyrical dance nurtures both technical skill and artistic expression, making it a rewarding and captivating style for students of all ages.

ACROBATICS

DANSA – The Studio Belfast follows the internationally renowned Acrobatic Arts programme, offering a structured, safe and highly effective approach to acrobatic training for dancers of all levels.

This comprehensive programme focuses on proven progressions across five key divisions of AcroDance: Flexibility, Strength, Balancing, Limbering and Tumbling. Each class is carefully designed to develop technical skill while prioritising safety, control and correct execution, ensuring students build strong foundations as they progress.

Developed with input from experts across multiple disciplines including Ballet, Modern and Jazz dance, Contortion, Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics, Sport Acrobatics, Yoga, Pilates, Physiotherapy and hand balancing, the Acrobatic Arts syllabus is widely regarded as one of the most thorough and trusted acrobatic training programmes available.

Through simple yet thoughtful progressions, students are guided from beginner level through to advanced acrobatic performance, developing the strength, flexibility, confidence and technique required to tumble and transition seamlessly across the stage. These classes support both recreational and competitive dancers, enhancing overall performance quality while building resilience, focus and confidence.

JAZZ DANCE
Have you ever watched a Broadway show or your local pantomime and thought, “That looks like so much fun to dance on stage!” Jazz Dance is a vibrant, energetic and expressive theatre-based dance style that brings that excitement to life.

Modern Jazz is a dynamic genre that combines strong technique with performance quality and personality. Dancers learn to move with musicality, precision and confidence, performing to a wide range of music styles from classic musical theatre numbers to commercial pop tracks. Classes are fast-paced and high energy, developing rhythm, coordination and stage presence.

Students are taught a variety of technical elements including turns, jumps, kicks and leaps, while also learning how to perform with expression, style and confidence. Jazz dance helps build strength, flexibility, stamina and timing, making it an excellent training style for both recreational and performance-focused dancers.

Our Jazz classes follow the I-PATH syllabus, which includes Musical Theatre Jazz, Lyrical and Modern Jazz. This allows students to explore a broad spectrum of modern dance styles while developing versatility, performance skills and a strong technical foundation suitable for stage, examinations and competitions.

HIP-HOP
Hip-Hop is a high-energy and exciting dance style inspired by movement seen in pop artist live shows, music videos, movies and commercial performances. It is a dynamic and expressive form of dance that allows students to develop individuality, confidence and performance style.

Most commonly rooted in street dance, Hip-Hop incorporates a wide range of freestyle movements and foundations, while sometimes blending in other styles to create unique and creative choreography. Students learn to move with rhythm, control and musicality while developing strength, coordination and stamina.

Hip-Hop dance has evolved through influential styles such as popping, locking and breaking, all of which contribute to the versatility and cultural impact of this genre. Classes focus on groove, timing, performance quality and self-expression, encouraging dancers to bring their own personality and style to the movement.

Our Hip-Hop classes provide a fun, inclusive and energetic environment where students of all levels can grow in confidence, creativity and stage presence while enjoying one of the most popular and influential dance styles in the world.

SONG & DANCE
Our Song & Dance classes offer young performers an exciting introduction to the world of musical theatre, a vibrant performing arts genre that blends singing, dancing and acting into one expressive and creative performance form. In these classes, students learn how these three artistic disciplines work together to tell a story, develop character and connect emotionally with an audience — just like the performers you see in West End and Broadway shows.

Students will work with popular musical theatre songs and learn complementary choreography that helps bring the music and story to life. Through structured yet fun sessions, they’ll build strong foundations in performance skills including musicality, rhythm, movement coordination, vocal expression and stage presence — all within a supportive and encouraging environment.

Music and movement are integrated in ways that encourage students to express emotion, develop confidence and engage creatively with performance. Classes often involve storytelling and character work, where students learn to deliver lyrics and movement with intention and flair, exploring expression through voice, gesture and body.

Beyond artistic development, musical theatre training nurtures valuable life skills. Students grow in confidence, communication, teamwork, concentration and physical awareness as they rehearse and perform, all while having fun and making friends
